AFTERCARE

Prolong the life of your hair system with maintenance regimes to encourage vitality.

Shampoo Hair Once A Week

Avoid letting the conditioner sit at the base of your hair system; as this can loosen the knots that attach the hairs to its base.

Instead, apply the conditioner to your mid-lengths and ends keeping away from the base secured knots. After distributing the conditioner evenly, rinse well whilst keeping the hair flowing in one direction.

Use ONLY lukewarm water on the hair system. Hot water may loosen the knots that attach the hairs to its base; cold water may cause drying which can lead to matting.

Squeeze excess water out gently, then pat dry with a cotton towel. Let hair air dry where possible, or blow-dry on a low cool setting. Style as desired, or as recommended by your stylist. Shampoo hair once a week, if required.

Prevent Dry Ends

To prevent dry ends, apply a small amount of anti-frizz hair serum (or almond oil) to the tips of your hair three to four times each week. At no time should you go to sleep with wet hair. On dry hair, apply a small amount of hair serum (or almond oil) to mid-lengths and ends. Brush through evenly.  Sleeping on a silk/satin pillowcase also helps to keep the hair moisturised and prevent friction leading to excessive dryness, breakage, and shedding.

Resist the Urge to Scratch

Friction causes the hair to dry out, which can lead to shedding and breakage. Try to avoid excess friction caused by scarfs, hats, or other materials that may cause the hair to tangle. Resist the urge to scratch at the base of the hairs system. Instead, try tapping the itch away to avoid fiction; which could lead to breakage.

Use Minimal Hair Products

Avoid using alcohol-based hair products; as this may cause hair to dry out - which could lead to matting. Use minimal hair products when styling. Too many styling products can cause dullness, stiffness, and build-up. A light amount of anti-frizz serum, or almond oil may add enough control and manageability. We do not recommend shampooing the hair everyday, as this can weaken the attachment bond, as well as drying out the hair.

Before working out or swimming, long hair should be brushed free from tangles with a small-to-medium amount of almond oil being applied before braiding. Avoid getting the hair wet with chlorine and salt water, as this may dry the hair out significantly.

When colouring use a Quasi, or Semi-Permanent hair colour. Quasi, and Semi-Permanent hair colours are low in peroxide and supports moisture and shine. Try to avoid harsh permanent hair colours.

Keep Hair Tangle Free

When detangling your hair, consider a bore bristle brush, nylon cushion brush, wide tooth comb, or detangler. Start from tip up to root to minimise  tugging at the knots attaching the hairs to its base.

Using a gentle amount of tension hold each section of hair firmly above the area you wish to detangle; brush gently until the hair is completely free from knots. Never brush too hard. Detangle from tip to root prior to wetting.  Keep tangle free hair moving in the same direction when wet. Do not twist or rub the hair.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Too much heat on the hair may cause hair to become dry and lose colour. We therefore suggest only straightening the hair twice a week, and avoiding direct sunlight where possible. When hair is wet, always blow-dry on a lower heat setting, and ensure that the hair is fully dry, from root to tip, prior to straightening. Always use non-alcohol heat protecting products. Avoid tight hairstyles; caused by pins, bands, and hair grips which cause tension, friction, and can lead to breakage, or shedding.
